Review by hotel critic
As a travel consultant with a flair for indulgent getaways, my recent experience at the Idle Rocks was quite memorable. The hotel's location, perched over the stunning St Mawes harbour, set the perfect stage for our culinary adventure. Our sea-view room was spacious, featuring a comfortable double bed and an elegant ensuite bathroom—a great starting point for our stay. One evening, we savored the Seven-course Signature Menu curated by Head Chef Dorian Janmaat. Each dish showcased the beauty of local ingredients, balancing complex flavors with simplicity. The passion of the kitchen team was evident, although a couple of dishes, like my mackerel starter, didn’t meet the high bar set by previous visits. Breakfast was a treat, with a generous buffet that included homemade granola and delightful fresh yogurt. My coffee-loving heart wished for a bit more quality on the caffeine front. The attentive reception team and overall ambiance made the experience feel special, even with some hiccups in the dining service. The Idle Rocks stands out for its culinary offerings, making it a cozy and classy retreat for food lovers.
